It looks like a sock — but it is neither a sock nor a traditional tabi.

The Knit Tabi liberates the fading craft of tabi-making from the world of kimono. Both the fabric and the construction were rebuilt from scratch to pair with modern clothing — a new genre of tabi.

Not knitted like a sock, but tailored like a tabi.

Construction

An ordinary sock is knitted in one piece into a tube on a circular knitting machine. The Knit Tabi is different: a purpose-made knit fabric is cut and sewn, one pair at a time, by skilled artisans using tabi-making techniques. They may look similar, but the construction — and the feel — are something else entirely.

Origin

Fabric — Mitsuke, Niigata
In Mitsuke, a center of knit production, we developed a dedicated, durable jacquard-knit fabric, pursuing the ideal material and knit for tabi from the ground up.

Sewing — Gyoda, Saitama
In Gyoda, the home of tabi, Isami Corporation — founded in 1907 — tailors each pair one at a time.

A knit region and a tabi region. This pairing exists nowhere else in the world.

Choosing your size

The Knit Tabi comes in two sizes, M and L. Use your usual shoe size as a guide.

• M: 23.5–25.0 cm (approx.)
• L: 26.0–28.5 cm (approx.)

If you are between sizes (25.0–26.0 cm): the knit has a comfortable stretch, so choose L for a relaxed fit or M for a snug fit. Thanks to the split-toe construction, drawing your toes all the way in gives the most comfortable fit.

Care

Machine washable at home. To prevent snagging and loss of shape, always place the item in a laundry net before washing.
