The Knit Tabi Comes to Daikanyama Tsutaya Books | NICK GEAR POPUP
The Knit Tabi will appear at "NICK GEAR", a curated popup at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books in Tokyo. The popup runs from 17 July to 31 July 2026. Through a connection with Mr Shimizu, who heads NICK GEAR, ISAMI has been invited to place its products among the selection — a chance to pick up and examine our work in person.
Meet The Knit Tabi at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books
Daikanyama Tsutaya Books is a quiet gathering of books, homeware and everyday tools. The NICK GEAR popup occupies one corner of it, and we are fortunate that Mr Shimizu has made room in that selection for The Knit Tabi. We are sending two colourways: the dot pattern in White and Black. The grain of the fabric, the character of the stitching, the split-toe shape — these are hard to convey online. Come and see them for yourself.
"Not knitted, but tailored" — in your own hands
An ordinary sock is shaped on a circular knitting machine, knitted straight into a tube. The Knit Tabi is made the other way round: a dedicated knit fabric is cut, then sewn one pair at a time using tabi construction. It looks like a sock, but in the way it is made it is a tabi through and through. The fabric is a jacquard developed from scratch for tabi in Mitsuke, Niigata, a knitting region; the tailoring is done in Gyoda, Saitama, a historic tabi region. We hope you will feel where those two regions' skills meet, right there in your hand.
